professional development

Discover the professional development opportunities for literacy providers on the South Island region.

In this session, Diane provided participants with a condensed understanding of the multiple steps required in reading comprehension and written output, along with strategies to assist clients in working through literacy roadblocks: - the use of non-traditional sources/materials - prediction - making personal connections - writing and discussion starters - things we get hung up on.

This workshop was appropriate for anyone who works with children, youth and/or adults in one on one or small group settings. Most of the strategies provided are for situations in which the facilitator has had time to prepare materials. However, some of these strategies can also be quickly adapted for teachable moments.
